Pro Poor Ethiopian Development Organization

Empowering communities, creating sustainable development.

Message from the Executive Director

Since its establishment in 2003, Pro Poor Ethiopian Development Organization (PeDO) has remained steadfast in its commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable communities across Ethiopia. The organization envisions seeing a better society where living conditions of poor and vulnerable groups are improved through the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and sustainable development of the country. PeDO's support for the poor and marginalized has today transformed into a broad and impactful mission driven by compassion, resilience, and sustainable development. Over the years, our organization has made significant contributions through robust engagement in poverty reduction, peacebuilding, humanitarian response, and community empowerment. We have worked tirelessly to create opportunities for disadvantaged groups, strengthen social cohesion, and support communities affected by both man-made and natural calamities. Our interventions in livelihood improvement, education, health, women and youth empowerment, capacity building, and emergency relief assistance have positively impacted thousands of individuals and families. During times of crisis, we have stood beside communities by providing life-saving humanitarian support and rehabilitation assistance to victims of conflict, drought, floods, and other emergencies. Peacebuilding has also remained at the center of our work. We strongly believe that sustainable development can only flourish in peaceful and inclusive societies. Through dialogue, community participation, and partnership, we continue to promote reconciliation, mutual understanding, and social harmony among communities. The achievements we celebrate today would not have been possible without the dedication of our staff, volunteers, development partners, donors, government institutions, and the communities we serve. Their trust and collaboration continue to inspire us to expand our impact and deepen our commitment to humanitarian and development work. As we look to the future, Pro Poor Ethiopian Development Organization remains committed to building resilient communities, reducing poverty, promoting peace, and responding effectively to humanitarian needs. Together, we can continue transforming lives and creating hope for a better and more prosperous future for all. Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

About Us

Empowering communities, creating opportunities, and building a more resilient Ethiopia.

Cross Cutting Issues

Gender Equality
Gender equality ensures that women, men, girls, and boys have equal rights, opportunities, and the freedom to reach their full potential. Promoting equality strengthens human rights, social justice, education, employment, and community development. By addressing discrimination and supporting equal treatment, communities can build a more peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous society.
Climate Change
Climate change affects the environment, economy, health, agriculture, water resources, and livelihoods. PEDO promotes climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable approaches while supporting communities to adapt to climate risks. The organization also encourages low-carbon development and efforts to reduce emissions while strengthening community resilience.
Human Rights
Human rights are fundamental to every person, regardless of their background, identity, or social status, and are grounded in dignity, equality, and justice. PEDO integrates the protection and promotion of human rights across all its programs, policies, and development initiatives. Through this approach, PEDO promotes inclusive, equitable, and sustainable outcomes that respect the dignity and wellbeing of all individuals and communities.
